Water + Fire...WATERFIRE

Who says that water and fire don’t mix?! HSURV villagers trekked to Providence, RI to see WaterFire, a public art installation, on what was perhaps the hottest day of the entire summer. We really got our cardio in as we discovered just how hilly Providence, RI is. It happened to be the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, and there was moon-themed events and paraphernalia galore. The evening began with a lecture from a 74-year old man who was a NASA astronaut. Massive inflatable moons were also suspended above the river. Just after sundown, we made our way down to the WaterFire Basin for the main event. After a cult-like ballet performance beneath an inflatable moon, the fire braziers around the river were finally lit up. Feet dangling over the water, we stared out at the fires and enjoyed some good food together.
